Spanish courses in Quito

Quito has long been an important city in South America: it belonged to the ancient Amerindian Quitu tribe, then to the vast Incan Empire, and was conquered by Spain in 1534. This captivating Latin American capital, then, has continued to evolve over nearly 800 years, constantly building upon its deep-seeded history to become of the most intriguing and charming cities in Latin America.
About Quito
|

|

Despite Quito's proximity to the equator, its high altitude lends it a pleasant climate often described as a "permanent spring." The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its historic center is considered to be the best preserved in Latin America. Colonial Quito is full of cobblestone streets, Baroque churches and monasteries, beautiful fountains, spacious squares and governmental buildings, yet all the while you can find lively, colorful Indian markets dispersed throughout the old part of town. Quito's population of over 1.2 million spreads into the modern and residential areas of the city, with everything you would expect of a contemporary world capital.
Quito's convenient location allows students the opportunity take excursions to ancient ruins, traditional markets, modern art galleries, intriguing archaeological museums with pre-Columbian treasures and beautiful religious buildings with intricate stone-carved facades and interior golden altars. You can also venture out to the famous Galapagos Islands or get to know neighboring Peru.
With a perfect climate, thought-provoking traditions, beautiful architecture and a burgeoning contemporary culture, Quito is an ideal setting to learn Spanish.

The city:
- Population: 1 million
- Location: Capital of Ecuador; located in a beautiful valley surrounded by snow capped peaks of the Andes, with excellent travel connections to Ecuador, the Galapagos and the rest of Latin America
- Quito is surprisingly friendly and considerably safer than other Latin American cities, despite its size.
- The city retains its graceful colonial charm, and enjoys a climate often referred to as "eternal spring".
- Quito is a traveller’s paradise. Less than two hours north is Otavalo, South America’s largest and most famous Indian market, a 2 ½ hour flight will find you in Darwin’s Galapagos, and just down the Pan American Highway lies the Cotopaxi National Park, site of the world’s highest active volcano.
Our opinion of Quito
With a perfect climate, thought-provoking traditions, beautiful architecture and a burgeoning contemporary culture, Quito is an ideal setting to learn Spanish, and a terrific base of operations for travel through Latin America.
