Rio de Janeiro or also called Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City) is the major city in the southeastern of Brazil, once capital of the country, and also during the Portuguese empire, now is the capital of the state of the same name. It’s famous for its carnival, samba and spectacular natural settings; in addition Rio is home of 23 beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema and more, an almost continuous 73 km ribbon of sand.

Rio de Janeiro has beautiful landmarks to visit as the Giant statue of Jesus, known as Cristo Redentor in English Christ the Redeemer located atop Corcovado Mountain, which was declared New Seven Wonder of The World in July 2007, other beautiful landmark is Pão de Açucar or Sugarloaf Mountain that is reachable by its cable car. The Sambódromo is the place where is display the Carnival of Rio every year in February; the Maracanã stadium is one of the largest soccer stadium in the world, and Floresta da Tijuca or in English name Tijuca Forest is largest forest inside an urban area.

The city is one the major economic and cultural hubs of South America; it is a cosmopolitan metropolis that provides a harmonious and agreeable environment for its inhabitants and visitors, but sadly, the city also is know by its violence and crime, and devastating by the poverty, in contrast with the Avenida Atlântica flanked on one side the with beach and azure sea and on the other side by condominiums and hotels.

Rio is home of Carioca, given name to who is born in Rio de Janeiro. Carioca is to have a light spirit, to be naturally happy, receptive, friendly and well. for these reasons, every year more and more tourists visit the city, and according with EMBRATUR, more than 2 million foreign tourists visit Rio annually.
