French Numbers

This section has been designed in order to provide you the most complete Vocabulary words for French Numbers.

The following is a list of the principal numbers translated to French. Note that some specific rules are applied in order to construct two-digit numbers. For instance, 21, 31, 41, and so on are written “vingt et un”, “trente et un”, “quarante et un”, respectively; from 22 to 29 (as well as 32 to 39, 42 to 49, etc.), the correct spelling includes a hyphen and suppresses the word “et” (“vingt-deux”“vingt-neuf”). A hyphen is also included from 71 to 79, 81 to 89 and 91 to 99, but it is very important to consider the fact that the suffix “–dix” changes everything from 71 to 76 as well as from 91 to 96 (“soixante-et-onze”- “soixante-seize” and “quatre-vingt-onze”-“quatre-vingt-seize”, respectively). Numbers from 100 to 199, on the other hand, carry the word “cent” at the beginning. In the case of 200, 300, 400, etc, the main number is written before the word “cent” (e.g. “deux cent”, “trios cent”, “quatre cent”, etc). Finally, the first number after these hundreds is written without “et” or hyphens (e.g. 201 = “deux cent un”). It is also worth mentioning that in some countries like Belgium and Switzerland, the number 70 is rather referred to as “septante”, 80 as “huitante” (or sometimes “octante”), and 90 as “nonante”.
