Shanghai Nightlife
With a nightlife rivaled by Paris, Shanghai was the most notorious city in Asia in the first half of the 20th century. Shanghai was dubbed the “whore of Asia” because of the countless opportunities for debauchery in its gambling and opium dens, rowdy nightclubs and glamorous theatres. But those were cleaned up when the communists came to power in 1949; drugs and prostitution were ended by decree, so entertainment was reduced to a few acceptable plays and dances. Nowadays, Shanghai is one of the greatest cities in the world with full surprises in entertainment and nightlife; in the last years, entertainment and nightlife possibilities was increased highly and it has the most colorful nightlife in China.

Shanghai has plenty to offer of anything, there are cinemas showing foreign and Chinese films, theatres featuring opera, dance, drama, acrobatics and puppets; there are also traditional tea houses, the most sophisticated dance clubs, bars and nightclubs that are always booming where you can meet new people, visitors and locals.
