Cairo is located in the north of Egypt, on the banks and islands of the Nile River. Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the most populous metropolitan area in Africa; it is also, one of the largest cities in the world with a population of more than 16 million people.
Cairo means “The Vanquisher” or “The Triumphant” and it is famous for its teeming history and culture, the ancient blends with the modern, creating a unique magical, mystical and exciting environment. Firmly attached to the past, it is home to a lively modern city.
There is a contrast in the Cairo scene, on the one side there is a vast arid desert which seems to be never ending; on the other side there is a busy city which looks like a modern day oasis. For many years, travelers from all over the world have been visiting and marveling the Egypt’s antiquities and modern city; it is more than an immersion into the past.
A trip to Cairo would not be complete without visiting the pyramids and the Sphinx, since these icons are the main landmarks of the country’s fascinating history. Also, To visit the Saqqara or the Egyptian Museum is a must. To visit the museum before going to see pyramids could be a good idea because it will help to understand and appreciate the culture of ancient Egypt even more.
